Privacy Policy

near0 is a paid research and intelligence tool operated by Near Zero LLC, based in Mississippi. We run background checks, business verifications, and site audits. Our contact address is kyle@near0.co.

Information you provide directly:

• Your email address (provided at checkout or when capturing a free scan)
• Payment information (processed by Stripe — we never see or store your full card number)
• The name, domain, username, or photo you submit for a report
• Any information you include when contacting us

Information collected automatically:

• IP address (used for rate limiting and abuse prevention)
• Browser type and approximate location (from IP)
• Pages visited and links clicked within near0.co
• Whether emails we send were opened or links were clicked
• Time spent on report pages

Information about third parties (report subjects):

When you run a report on a person or business, near0 collects publicly available information about that subject from open sources — domain records, public filings, breach databases, social platforms, and similar sources. This information is collected on your behalf and returned to you as a report. We do not sell this information or use it to market to report subjects.

• To process your payment and deliver your report
• To send you your report results and case updates by email
• To follow up on free scans or outreach emails you have received
• To detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and rate-limit violations
• To improve our services and fix technical issues
• To comply with legal obligations

If you submit a photo as part of a person check, that photo is uploaded to secure storage and used to run a facial recognition scan against publicly available online profiles. The photo is then:

• Stored securely for 90 days from your report date
• Permanently deleted after 90 days — no exceptions
• Never shared with third parties beyond the facial recognition process
• Never used for any purpose other than the scan you requested

The 90-day window covers our chargeback and dispute period. After that, only your report findings are retained — the biometric source file is destroyed. A deletion timestamp is recorded in your case record confirming when the photo was removed.

To request early deletion of your photo, email us at kyle@near0.co with your case ID. We will delete it within 5 business days.

near0 operates an outreach program in which we scan publicly accessible business websites for security and SEO issues, then contact the business by email to let them know what we found. If your business received an email from us:

• Your domain and any publicly listed contact email were sourced from publicly available records
• Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link at the bottom
• Clicking unsubscribe permanently removes you from all near0 outreach
• We do not sell or share your contact information with any third party
• We send no more than four emails per business, spread over 10 days, before stopping permanently

All outreach emails comply with the CAN-SPAM Act. If you have questions about why you were contacted or want to be removed immediately, email kyle@near0.co.

The free scanner on our homepage checks publicly accessible security headers and DNS records for a domain you provide. When you run a scan:

• The scan results are stored temporarily so we can show you your results if you return
• If you provide your email, we send you the results and may follow up (see outreach policy above)
• If you do not provide your email, the scan record is retained for 7 days then deleted
• We log your IP address for rate limiting — 10 scans per minute per IP

near0 is not a consumer reporting agency as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Reports from near0 may not be used to determine eligibility for credit, insurance, employment, housing, or any other purpose covered by the FCRA. Using near0 reports for these purposes is prohibited. All reports are provided for informational purposes only.

We retain data for the following periods:

• Report findings and case records: retained indefinitely for compliance and dispute purposes
• Customer email and payment records: 7 years (tax and accounting requirements)
• Photos submitted for person checks: deleted 90 days after report date
• Free scan records with no email provided: deleted after 7 days
• Unsubscribe records: retained indefinitely to honor your opt-out
• Abuse and rate-limit logs: 90 days
• Email tracking events: 2 years

We use the following third-party services to operate near0:

• Stripe — payment processing (stripe.com/privacy)
• Supabase — database and file storage (supabase.com/privacy)
• SendGrid / Twilio — email delivery (twilio.com/legal/privacy)
• Vercel — website hosting and infrastructure (vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy)
• Clearbit — business domain lookup for free scans (clearbit.com/privacy)
• Brave Search / Hunter.io — business contact discovery for outreach

We do not sell your personal data to any third party. Data shared with the above services is limited to what is necessary to deliver our service.

Regardless of where you live, you may:

• Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
• Request correction of inaccurate data
• Request deletion of your data (subject to compliance retention requirements)
• Opt out of all outreach emails via the unsubscribe link in any email, or by contacting us directly
• Request early deletion of a photo you submitted

California residents have additional rights under the CCPA, including the right to know what personal information is sold or disclosed (we do not sell personal information) and the right to non-discrimination for exercising privacy rights.

To exercise any of these rights, email kyle@near0.co with your request. We respond within 10 business days.

near0 is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, contact us immediately and we will delete it.

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), row-level security on our database, restricted API access, and regular security audits. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. If you discover a security issue, please report it responsibly to kyle@near0.co.

We may update this policy as our practices change. We will update the "last updated" date at the top. For material changes, we will notify active customers by email. Continued use of near0 after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
